Hartlepool and Railway Line Wreck – Sunday 29th June.
Chris, Andy, Yvonne, Mark and myself all arrived early, so the boat was prepped and launched with loads of time to spare. Light cloud and a flat sea made for easy diving conditions. We shotted the Hartlepool based on one set of marks provided by Andy. Andy and Mark didn’t find much wreckage but still had a nice dive, spotting a conger and free-walking lobster. As we had plenty of time we used an alternative set of marks and found something a bit more promising on the sounder, so Chris, Yvonne and I free-descended onto some wreckage. We saw several conger, prawn and loads of blennies including the illusive black-faced blenny! In addition, we came across a small reef in the area. During our surface interval we motored over to the railway line wreck, which we shotted and then waited for slack. Andy and Mark dropped in about 1 hour before slack, which was definitely diveable, to find the shot on the top of the wreck. There were loads and loads of conger, I’d never seen so many blennies, plenty of small bib and other fish. I found it to be very pretty with loads of life on a small site. Back at Ferrybridge there was little water on the slip leaving the boat over soft sand. We used some wood and plastic (found lying around by Andy) under the trailer wheels which stopped them sinking into the sand making retrieval easy. Everyone helped to wash off and store the boat for next time.
Thanks to Chris, Andy, Yvonne and Mark for a lovely days diving.
